Position Summary

Skagit Valley College is seeking associate faculty to teach in the English Language Acquisition department. This position is a part time faculty member who teaches English Language Acquisition or Adult Basic Education classes in listening, reading and writing at the Mount Vernon campus. This Associate Faculty position may include a flexible teaching schedule to cover day, evening, and weekends. The incumbent will report to the Dean for Basic Education for Adults.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide speaking, listening, reading and writing classroom instruction in English Language Acquisition;
  • Deliver culturally appropriate curriculum that reflects diversity of student experience;
  • Develop inclusive curriculum aligned to College and Career Readiness Standards and presented with active learning delivery methods;
  • Develop and incorporate curriculum that responds to the diverse needs of our community and students;
  • Assist in developing, assessing and analyzing program outcomes for the purposes of program improvement and enhanced student learning;
  • Assess, monitor, and document student performance;
  • Provide class syllabi and course outlines to students and to the instructional office;
  • Express appropriate awareness of the history of underrepresented groups and promote an equitable work and learning environment;
  • Create a positive learning environment for students using diverse teaching methods to support and enhance student success;
  • Attend scheduled Basic Skills department meetings as appropriate;
  • Fulfill associate faculty responsibilities in accordance with the negotiated agreement and College policies, including professional development requirements.
