Why Join MLK Labor
MLK Labor is one of the strongest Central Labor Councils in the country. With more than 150 affiliated local unions, we fight to organize new workers, win strong contracts, and elect pro-worker candidates to public office at the local level. Our strength comes from a unified labor movement. By joining MLK Labor, you are helping build a stronger King County labor movement that benefits us all.
How does a union join MLK Labor?
The first step to joining MLK Labor is to complete this form. Once the form is completed, we will reach out to arrange a time for further discussion.
How are affiliates represented?
MLK Labor affiliates are organized into ‘trade sections,’ each of which elects a representative to serve on the Executive Board. The Board meets monthly before each delegate meeting.
In addition to the Executive Board, we have a Delegate body that meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 6 pm at the Seattle Labor Temple. New delegates are sworn in at the beginning of each meeting. Each affiliate is entitled to a certain number of delegates based on its per capita dues. The full outline of our structure can be found in our Constitution and Bylaws.
Dues
MLK Labor dues are $1/member per month based on the number of people in your union who work in King County. Your per capita membership determines the number of delegates allowed and voting strength at delegate meetings.
