Resolution Supporting a 2026 Levy to Revitalize the Seattle Center Campus

WHEREAS, Seattle Center is a treasured public asset that serves as a cultural, civic, and economic anchor for the City of Seattle, and many of its core facilities—including the Armory—require significant reinvestment to ensure long-term safety, accessibility, and public benefit; and
WHEREAS, revitalizing the Seattle Center campus presents an opportunity to modernize aging infrastructure, transition the campus to a carbon-neutral energy system, and create family-wage union jobs through construction, operations, and long-term maintenance;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Martin Luther King Jr. County Labor Council, AFL-CIO supports the development of a 2026 voter-approved levy to revitalize the Seattle Center campus, and calls on the Mayor’s Office to advance a timely levy proposal to the Seattle City Council that funds comprehensive upgrades, delivers a carbon-neutral energy system, prioritize creative economy union jobs, and ensures the campus is built, operated, and maintained by union labor in perpetuity.
