Resolution in Solidarity with the Minnesota Labor Movement’s January 23 Day of Truth and Freedom Against ICE
January 21, 2026
WHEREAS, the Minnesota labor movement is united against the violent ICE occupation of their cities, which has directly impacted union members, workplaces, and families; and
WHEREAS, the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation has issued a statement declaring: “Workers are essential for our communities to function. Since the ICE campaign of terror began, both immigrant and non-immigrant workers have feared for their safety when going to work, being at work, and coming home from work. Union members and our families are being illegally detained at alarming rates, with workplaces and schools facing increased challenges,” and
WHEREAS, the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, along with regional bodies throughout Minnesota—including the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation, the West Area Labor Council, the North East Area Labor Council, and the East Central Labor Council—have joined in solidarity to endorse a powerful unified statewide action on January 23, 2026, known as the Day of Truth and Freedom, and are calling for No Work, School, or Shopping on that day; and
WHEREAS, such coordinated labor actions represent a legitimate and historic expression of collective resistance to policies that terrorize immigrant communities and undermine the safety, dignity, and rights of all workers; now,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that MLK Labor stands in solidarity with our siblings in Minnesota and supports their January 23rd Day of Truth and Freedom, which sets a powerful example for unions across the country on how to resist Trump’s occupation and stop it from spreading to other locales; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that MLK Labor urges its affiliates, their members, and the broader community to show their support for Minnesota labor by participating in synchronized solidarity worksite and school actions at noon on January 23, 2026, to coincide with the beginning of a mass march called by labor in Minneapolis at 2 p.m. Central Time. Such actions may include scheduling lunch and break times for noon sidewalk sign-waving, whistle-blowing, or other worksite solidarity actions to express our unity; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that MLK Labor leadership hold a news conference to publicize this call and to send a loud and clear message that Washington State stands with Minnesota.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that MLK Labor endorses the ICE out of Seattle rally on Saturday, January 31, as it is organized by Seattle educators and MLK Labor delegates.
