Workers Highlight Health and Safety Concerns as Mauser Lockout Enters Fourth Week
May 7, 2025
As the lockout at Mauser Packaging Solutions stretches into its fourth week, workers are amplifying concerns about labor rights, environmental hazards, and public health risks linked to the company’s operations. Mauser workers and their union, Teamsters Local 117, launched mauserpackagingmisery.com to expose the company’s troubling history of unsafe working conditions and corporate negligence.
On April 14, 2025, Mauser abruptly locked out 20 employees who refurbish steel barrels at its ICS facility in Seattle, shutting them out of their jobs in the middle of contract negotiations. Then, at midnight on April 30, the company stripped these workers of their benefits, including health insurance, escalating the hardship faced by their families.
“With the lockout in Seattle, Mauser’s dismal treatment of workers is well-documented,” said Paul Dascher, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 117, in a press release. “The public may be less aware of Mauser’s history of polluting the environment and damaging public health in communities across the country. We encourage anyone who cares about ethical business practices and corporate accountability to learn more at MauserPackagingMisery.com.”
Despite these attacks on their livelihoods, locked-out workers remain resolute in their fight for a fair contract. By publicly exposing Mauser’s exploitation, they hope to pressure the company to come to the bargaining table with a fair offer. Support for their cause continues to grow, with hundreds already signing a petition demanding an end to the lockout.
