What you will be working on:

  • Advance equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) by incorporating an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens into daily advising practice and advocating for historically marginalized students, organizing EDI activities, advocating for policy changes, community engagement, and/or self-advocacy.
  • Assist students in understanding prerequisites for their chosen career pathway and assist with the development of educational, career, and life goals while assessing student progress towards degree or certificate requirements and make appropriate referrals for students in need of academic or personal counseling.
  • Assist students with course selection and the development of individualized educational plans.
  • Assist students with completing applications for graduation.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with career training program coordinators, faculty, and other campus staff.
  • Support and enhance a sense of belonging and success for students from traditionally marginalized populations.
  • Keep the advising team up to date with changes in Workforce Education programs.
  • Document activities, meetings with students and products developed for grant reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to facilitate communication between advising and other departments, including program mapping as it relates to Guided Pathways.
  • Participate in the development of program priorities as a member of the NSC Advising and Student Success Services team.
