Position Summary

Skagit Valley College is anticipating an opening for one or more part-time faculty in Physics at the Mount Vernon and/or the Whidbey Island campuses in Mount Vernon and or Oak Harbor, Washington. This position will teach Physics courses spanning department offerings as assigned. Part-time Physics faculty teach one or a combination of Physics courses at all levels of the curriculum consistent with their experience, provide office hours, and participate in departmental meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide classroom and/or online instruction in Physics;
  • Provide classroom instruction or support using a Learning Management System (Canvas)
  • Provide instruction in a laboratory setting;
  • Coordinate classes and lab work;
  • Provide student and collegial support through developing and assessing learning outcomes and maintaining office hours;
  • Monitor and document student performance;
  • Deliver culturally appropriate curriculum that reflects diversity of student experience;
  • Express appropriate awareness of the history of underrepresented groups and promote an equitable work and learning environment;
  • Create a positive learning environment for students using diverse teaching methods to support and enhance student success;
  • Develop and incorporate contextualized curriculum and alternative delivery methods that respond to the diverse needs of the community and students;
  • Provide integrated class syllabi and course outlines to students and appropriate departments;
  • Assist in developing, assessing and analyzing program outcomes;
  • Assess, monitor and document student performance;
  • Fulfill part-time faculty responsibilities in accordance with the negotiated agreement and Skagit Valley College policies.
