Job Duties & Performance Standards

Surgery related duties:
• Manage and maintain multiple surgeons’ schedules: cancelling, rescheduling, etc.
• Schedule surgeries using Surgery Referral work queue for two operating rooms: Maleng OR and Eye Institute OR.
• Schedule pre-op appointments: ASCANS, Pre-Anesthesia, etc.
• Submit CPT codes for prior-authorization (PAs) for surgeries.
• Create electronic surgery packets (ESPs).
• Create Pre-Admissions for surgeries and urgent patient admissions.
• Fax worksheet to OR team and place in shared drive to assist with placing patient on Surgery Whiteboard.
• Act as a liaison between doctors and 3rd parties: patients, PAC team, etc. responding to questions and concerns related to surgery.
• Collect medical records and current medication lists for medical review with Pre-Anesthesia Clinic (PAC).
• Assist in acquiring PCP referral for surgeries for managed care plans.
• Obtain signed orders for certain medications needed for surgery.
• Create post-op appointments for all surgery patients.
• Assist in any peer to peer or appeals needed for surgery PA denials.
• Manage and prepare Premium Toric/Mutlifocal lens contracts and payments.
• Assist patients in submitting and creating cost estimate requests for surgery.
• Assist with Alaska Medicaid travel/lodging authorizations and creating vouchers.
• Scan PHI and other surgery related forms into EPIC.
• Scan ASCANs and ensuring they are available for surgeons to view in EPIC, Symphony, and hard copies in OR.
• Pre-op phone calls with check-in times and reminder of dietary restrictions.
• Coordinate with SCCA Proton team for proton treatment patients.
• Upload Fundus photos via Symphony program.
• Coordinate with RadOnc team for plaque patients.
• Fill out Castle Bioscience biopsy forms, faxing letters, ultrasounds and pathology.

Non-surgery related duties:
• Batch out previous day cash/check receipts and taking to Cashiers.
• Submit CPT codes for clinic procedures to obtain prior-authorizations.
• Call insurance to ask if PA is required for same day injections/lasers.
• Place radiology and other outgoing referrals in to process for PSS to schedule.
• Assist in getting PCP referrals for PAs for clinic procedures.
• Forwarding denials/appeals/peer to peer information to doctors for review on radiology or clinic procedures.
• Assist patients with getting in contact with financial.
