Position Summary 

TCC faculty are focused on student success and have responsible for preparing and providing high-quality classroom, laboratory and /or clinical instruction. The instruction required of this position covers a variety of nursing concepts across the health care continuum with a focus on Mental Health and Chronic Care.  This position works closely with nursing faculty colleagues in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing curriculum.  This position reports jointly to the Associate Provost for Workforce and Dean of Health and Wellness, and Associate Dean for Nursing.

The successful candidate must be available to attend regular in-person activities on campus for student meetings, college and program committee work, industry partner meetings, and other related functions. Teaching assignments may be at either the Tacoma or Gig Harbor campuses of Tacoma Community College. Full COVID-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment.

  • Prepare and teach face-to- face, hybrid, and fully online courses and labs in the field of nursing with a focus on mental health and chronic care, including assessment of a variety of lesson materials and selection of textbooks
  • Recommend, select, and maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and supplies
  • Participate in curriculum and program development incorporating current educational theories and research and integrating new and innovative approaches to instruction
  • Coordinate, prepare, and teach in a collaborative team-teaching environment
  • Develop and utilize a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of learners in a variety of environments
  • Work with an advisory committee of community partners to keep curriculum relevant to local employer needs
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback using program criteria and expectations
  • Maintain regular office hours to improve student retention and success
  • Advise current and potential nursing assistant program students
  • Work with local employers and students to facilitate internships
  • Support division and department goals and participate in departmental responsibilities to include curriculum review, program development, implementation of departmental policies and procedures, and faculty meetings
  • Serve on college committees and participate in college governance
  • Maintain current knowledge in the appropriate academic fields; maintain certifications required for nursing instruction; participates in staff development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate
  • Demonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous substances; trains students in the safe handling of hazardous substances or equipment, where applicable
  • Perform related duties as assigned
