What you will be working on:

• Providing leadership for the development and coordination of programming to support students pursuing programs in the Health & Medical Area of Study, particularly in Allied Health programs. Incorporating an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens into daily advising practice. Advance equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), such as advocating for historically marginalized students, organizing EDI activities, advocating for policy changes, community engagement, and/or self-advocacy.
• Assembling and/or developing materials to help students understand career options in Health & Medical programs that include onramps and advanced offerings in the Seattle area. Coordinate with other Seattle Colleges to avoid duplication and to ensure uniform messaging. Updating advising materials and resources as needed.
• Assisting students in understanding prerequisites for healthcare careers, development of educational, career, and life goals, course selections and completing graduation applications.
• Advising prospective, new, and current students concerning college admission requirements, assessment/placement options, college transfer and professional/technical programs, degree requirements and transfer process.
• Assessing student progress towards degree or certificate requirements and make appropriate referrals for students in need of academic or personal counseling.
• Supporting and enhancing a sense of belonging and success for students from traditionally marginalized populations.
• Maintaining working knowledge of articulation agreements between NSC and four-year institutions.
• Maintaining positive working relationships with career training program coordinators, faculty, and other campus staff. Collaborating with faculty and staff to facilitate communication between advising and other departments, including program mapping as related to Guided Pathways. Keeping the advising team up to date with changes in Health & Medical programs.
• Documenting activities, meetings with students and products developed for grant reporting purposes.
• Participating in the development of program priorities as a member of the NSC Advising and Student Success Services team.
