Working in Transitional Studies programs, the assistant professor is responsible for facilitating student learning and student success with a diverse student population. The assistant professor provides instruction for a variety of programs that include intensive English (IEP), pre-college, BEdA, Open Doors, and I-BEST. In addition, this position is responsible for contributing to a collaborative, professional work environment focused on personal and student growth.

This position will be part of a team of faculty responsible for the continued development of Transitional Studies programs. Working with a cross-departmental and cross-functional team, this position will participate in program development especially as it relates to advising, curriculum development, and instruction that supports transition to college level coursework.

The college seeks faculty who will take a leadership role in their departments and the College, will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success.

This position could be assigned a variety coursework in Transitional Studies programs or college level programs for which qualifications are met.

Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction, curriculum development and assessment of student learning, and program outcomes

• Serve the needs of students who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicities, and educational and cultural backgrounds, and infuse multicultural perspectives into course content and delivery.
• Assess student learning and revise curriculum as needed.
• Use a Learning Management system and other technology in a manner that enhances student learning.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity and diversity and inclusion through pedagogical practices and curriculum development.

Advising and career planning with students

• Effectively work with students to identify career goals and select a program and courses to reach those goals.
• Guide students through various college processes.
• Advise new students during open enrollment and on a quarterly basis thereafter and track student progress throughout program completion.

Committee work, grant work and outreach

• Collaborate in a professional environment focused on personal and student growth. Collaboration within the Transitional Studies department, across campus, and the community are essential.
• Implement strategies to recruit and retain students.
• Serve on campus committees that support the college’s mission.
• Collaborate and participate in the writing of grants, federal reports, and monitoring visits.
• Ensure federal and state program requirements are met.
