Job Description
Centralia College is committed to student success, academic excellence, and supporting our community in an inclusive and equitable learning environment. Working in Transitional Studies programs, the assistant professor is responsible for facilitating student learning and student success with a diverse student population. The assistant professor provides instruction for a variety of programs that include intensive English (IEP), pre-college, BEdA, Open Doors, and I-BEST. In addition, this position is responsible for contributing to a collaborative, professional work environment focused on personal and student growth.
This position will be part of a team of faculty responsible for the continued development of Transitional Studies programs. Working with a cross-departmental and cross-functional team, this position will participate in program development especially as it relates to advising, curriculum development, and instruction that supports transition to college level coursework.
The college seeks faculty who will take a leadership role in their departments and the College, will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success.
This position could be assigned a variety coursework in Transitional Studies programs or college level programs for which qualifications are met.

Centralia College is located on a 30-acre campus in the heart of Centralia, Washington and has been serving students in the Lewis County region since 1925. As a comprehensive community college, Centralia College offers academic transfer and workforce programs, as well as adult basic education, ELL, and personal enrichment classes. The college also offers five Bachelor of Applied Science degrees: Information Technology - Application Development, Diesel Technology, Applied Management (Business), Behavioral Healthcare and Teacher Education.
In addition to the main campus in Centralia, Centralia College East in Morton is a smaller site that serves the needs of students in east Lewis County. Since the college is committed to the success of all students, Centralia College also provides educational programs at two corrections centers in southwest Washington - Garrett Heyns Education Center located in Shelton, Washington and the Cedar Creek Corrections Center located in Littlerock, Washington. In addition to Green Hill School in Chehalis, Washington. In total, the college serves more than 7,000 students annually. For more than 90 years, several generations of Lewis County residents have looked to Centralia College for their education and training needs.
AFT Washington is a state federation affiliated with the 1.6 million American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO. We represent about 6,500 members including faculty from the community and technical colleges and pre-K through 12 classified employees. We also jointly represent professors at Eastern, Central, and Western Washington universities and The Evergreen College with the Washington Education Association.
