What you will be working on:

EHS Management for Seattle Colleges District

  • Inspect all Seattle College District's facilities hazardous waste accumulation areas, shops, and labs, and write
    inspection reports as required in WAC 173-307 and WAC 173-303.
  • Support and train site specific hazardous waste and chemical hygiene personnel on appropriate chemical/waste
    management and ensure proper waste disposal.
  • Work with campus Facilities departments to ensure proper filing of hazardous waste (and universal waste recycling)
  • disposal records and reporting.
    Serve as a district expert in Health and Safety law and serve as an advocate for employees in health and
    safety matters.
  • Monitor and evaluate applicability and ensure proper environmental reporting, documentation, and recordkeeping occurs
    district-wide for:

Leadership

  • Cross manages and mentor H&S team members and other supervising/management teams across the district.
  • Ensure laboratory staff/technicians and shop Associates at each location are equipped to manage chemical inventory
    and SDS recordkeeping system. Including management of the district-wide chemical SDS records keeping system
    (msdsonline.com) for compliance with community right-to-know standards.
  • Directly manage (work-study) H&S Associate(s) to support various chemical inventories and SDS management
    quality control.
  • Work with Facilities management to prepare inspection and facilities management checklists (e.g. HVAC system
    preventative maintenance inspection checklists and/or ongoing pest management/prevention tasks).
  • Respond to, investigate, evaluate risk, and recommend testing (where applicable) on community questions/concerns
    of hazards related to lead as Lead Risk Assessor, asbestos as AHERA Asbestos Risk Assessor, chemical exposure,
    and biological hazards.
  • Work with Facilities Directors, Safety & Security Directors, OSH, and key campus stakeholders to prepare and
    implement H&S Plans & Policies
  • Coordinate with campus Safety & Security directorship to implement a comprehensive training program that ensures
    ongoing compliance with certifications by employees required by statute to be trained on emergency first aid (BLS
    Trainer Certification), CPR, AED (per WAC 131.16.093).

Emergency Response

  • Serve as district safety officer (NIMS/FEMA) for emergency response.
  • Work with executive leadership to ensure all incident command team members are properly trained/certified according
    to NIMS/FEMA training standards, applicable to the designated response team position.
  • Serve as lead safety consultant to vice presidents, presidents, and associated cabinets, as needed, including
    emergency response systems.
