Job Summary

Shoreline Community College is dedicated to inclusive excellence in teaching and learning, student success, and community engagement. Shoreline serves the educational, workforce, and cultural needs of our diverse students and communities through the core themes of educational attainment and student success, program excellence, community engagement, access and diversity, and College stewardship. Shoreline Community College is a place of open inquiry and learning, with a campus that models ideals set out in our Community Standard*. We are committed to upholding a culture of free expression, as well as maintaining a supportive and respectful learning and working environment for all.

This position will be part of the teaching team for Shoreline's I-BEST Certified Nursing Assistant Program. Washington State's Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) model pairs two teachers - a specialist (nurse) teaching specific job skills and an English Language Learning (ELL) and Basic Skills instructor to address learning strategies and continued improvements to English, math and job readiness skills. The teaching team is responsible for integrating curriculum and selecting an appropriate model for shared teaching responsibilities. The program is designed to help English language learners and native speakers with below college-level basic skills to gain skills and credentials for high demand jobs such as NAC positions, while improving their basic skills.

Washington State's Department of Health (DOH) requires that core NAC instruction be provided by an RN with teaching expertise. At the same time, the State Board of Technical and Community Colleges is highly supportive of using the I-BEST model for NAC instruction. Thus, the teaching team needs to use creative approaches to ensure that technical material is presented initially by the RN instructor, with full participation by the ELL/Basic Skills instructor in reinforcing the learning process, developing learning activities, and helping to tailor instructional methods to support student success. Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of Nursing this position will teach and supervise students as scheduled in classroom, laboratory and/or clinical settings.
