Resolution to support the “We Are Here” Walk and Rally

WHEREAS, immigrant, migrant, people of color and their allies across Washington State and the nation are being targeted by ICE, without due process, getting kidnapped and violently attacked and killed increasing the fear, instability, and suffering our our communities,

WHEREAS, these same communities continue to demonstrate extraordinary resilience, leadership, cultural richness, and a deep commitment to solidarity and collective liberation; and

WHEREAS, the Pacific Northwest Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (PNW LCLAA), alongside community, labor, youth, faith, and civil rights organizations, is organizing a two day event  “We Are Here” starting with at  27-mile fundraising walk from Granger to Yakima in benefit of individuals and families directly impacted by immigration enforcement in the state of Washington on April 4 and a rally and faith service on Sunday April 5, 2026, grounded in the theme “We Are Here”—affirming that our communities are visible, powerful, and resilient; and

WHEREAS, this event is organized and led by immigrants and people of color—as well as gender-expansive leaders, workers, and community organizers, whose lived experiences and wisdom strengthen this movement’s vision; and

WHEREAS, “We Are Here”  seeks to fundraise for WA immigrant families affected by immigration enforcement, uplift the rights, dignity, safety, and full humanity of all immigrant workers and their families; and

WHEREAS, “We Are Here” aligns with several meaningful historical moments, including: the 40th anniversary of a historic farmworker march for basic rights and dignity; the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose teachings unite labor and civil rights movements; Easter weekend, which for many symbolizes renewal, hope, and collective rebirth, and

WHEREAS, We Are Here sends a unified message that our communities will not be pushed into the shadows, and that we will stand together against fear-mongering, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, classism, ableism, and all forms of oppression; and

WHEREAS, thousands of community members, workers, youth, families, elders, and allies will gather to walk in solidarity, building a bridge between past struggles and the collective future we are shaping; and

WHEREAS, the planning committee asks volunteers to participate in weekly one-hour virtual meetings and uphold a confidentiality agreement in order to build a safe, thoughtful, and accountable organizing space; now, therefore, be it

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that MLK Labor fully supports the “We Are Here” Walk and Rally on April 4-5, 2026; and be it further

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that MLK Labor encourage unions, affiliates, and community partners to participate, mobilize members, and provide support through outreach, communications, and available resources; and be it further

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that MLK Labor affirms and uplifts the leadership of women of color, gender-expansive leaders, and all marginalized workers, recognizing their crucial role in shaping a more equitable labor movement; and be it further

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that affiliates are encouraged to nominate and support volunteers who reflect the diversity of our communities and who can contribute meaningfully to the planning and execution of this event; and be it further

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that MLK Labor recognizes this event “We Are Here” as a bridge connecting the history of grassroots worker movements to the present-day fight for immigrant justice, racial justice, and economic justice; and be it finally

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that MLK Labor declare that “We Are Here”—visible, united, and unapologetic, standing in solidarity with all communities striving to live, work, organize, and thrive with dignity, safety, and hope.
