Resolution for MLK Labor to sponsor Blueprint to Build: Our Social Housing Future

WHEREAS MLK Labor endorsed, financially supported, and mobilized our members in support of Initiative 135 and Prop 1A, the voter initiatives that created and then funded a publicly operated social housing developer in Seattle

WHEREAS Social housing is an internationally proven model that allows for permanent and true affordability, cross-class communities with built-in resources, fully public ownership, and renter leadership that works to ensure nearly all people have access to quality affordable housing.

WHEREAS the Seattle Social Housing Developer has acquired existing housing to convert into social housing and has site control of numerous properties to begin developing new, permanently affordable, union-built, passive house, social housing.

WHEREAS House Our Neighbors has been at the forefront of social housing advocacy in Seattle, running both initiative campaigns and being a consistent and strong partner with organized labor through both campaigns, earning our sponsorship of their previous fundraiser

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that MLK Labor will sponsor House Our Neighbors’ upcoming event, Blueprint to Build: Our Social Housing Future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that MLK Labor will encourage our affiliates and their members to attend Blueprint to Build and to sign up as members to support House Our Neighbors’ continued efforts to make social housing a reality in Seattle and beyond.
