Resolution Condemning US Action in Venezuela

WHEREAS, On January 3rd, the United States launched the systematic bombing of Venezuela, attacking government facilities and killing many, including civilians, and taking the President of Venezuela captive;

WHEREAS, this invasion was conducted without Congressional approval, making it flagrantly illegal and unconstitutional;

WHEREAS, high-ranking government officials, including President Trump, have admitted that this invasion is being waged for Venezuelan oil;

WHEREAS, wars such as this endanger American and Venezuelan workers, create massive refugee populations fleeing violence, fuel offshoring and low-wage, extremely exploited, non-union workforces, and waste billions of dollars that could be spent on the problems facing working-class Americans;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that MLK Labor reiterates its belief that every worker deserves to live in dignity and peace without the fear of being bombed in their homes and workplaces;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that MLK Labor denounces the U.S. military intervention in Venezuela;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that MLK Labor states its belief in Venezuela’s sovereignty and the right of the Venezuelan people to choose their own government;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that MLK Labor will mobilize affiliates to call on their locally and federally elected leaders to reject U.S. imperialism in Venezuela and around the world, and demand an end to the war.
