Link Light Rail, Metro Transit’s Rail Division, is responsible for operating and maintaining Link Light Rail service on a 20+ mile route from the Angle Lake Station south of Sea-Tac Airport to Northgate station in North Seattle. Plans and/or construction are underway extending the system to the north, east, south, and west. Expansion over the next five years alone will include the addition of more than 20 stations and 40 miles of light rail track. The light rail line is a critical part of the region’s transportation network and carries more than 79,000 daily weekday riders. This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) Lead Rail Facilities Mechanic positions, responsible for assigning and coordinating the work of Rail Facilities Mechanics. Work involves providing technical assistance and lead direction to crew members engaged in maintenance, repair and upgrades of the Light Rail operating facilities, supporting systems and equipment. This position works directly with the facilities chief and responsibilities will also include the coordination and oversight of work performed by outside contractors working in an assortment of crafts, engaged in a variety of building and systems maintenance, repair and enhancement. This is a working lead position, and all normal duties of a Rail Facilities Mechanic will also be performed. This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with federal DOT alcohol and controlled substances testing program protocols. Employees in this position must be willing and able to work one of three shifts (day, swing or graveyard). Work shift is subject to change based on seniority bid system and needs of the business. Physical requirements: This position is required to frequently lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift objects up to 100 pounds with assistance. Working environment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather. Must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces such as the tunnel.
