SUMMARY:Community Town Hall: Fresh Food for All
DESCRIPTION:Fred Meyer has announced the closure of four grocery stores in our region — in Lake City\, Kent\, Redmond\, and Everett. These closures will eliminate nearly 700 union jobs and leave working-class neighborhoods with fewer options for affordable food. Kroger\, the parent company of Fred Meyer\, is blaming “theft” and “regulations” for these closures — but the truth is corporate greed: billions of dollars siphoned to Wall Street instead of reinvesting in our stores\, workers\, and communities. \nOn Saturday\, September 20\, workers\, shoppers\, elected officials\, and community members will come together at the Seattle Labor Temple for a Community Town Hall to fight back. We’ll hear directly from impacted grocery workers\, shoppers\, and leaders about the stakes of these closures — and identify concrete ways for the community to push back and stand together. \nThis town hall will go into more detail on our new Fresh Food for All campaign — a bold vision to reimagine our food system so it works for everyone. Come learn about proposals like: \n\nA Grocery Shoppers’ Bill of Rights — guaranteeing fair prices\, safe staffing\, and equal access to discounts\nGrocery-Oriented Development Zones (GODZ) — pairing new housing with grocery stores so every neighborhood has reliable access to affordable food\nMunicipal Grocery Stores — a “public option” for groceries run for people\, not profit\, to stabilize prices and ensure no community is left behind\n\nWhat is a municipal grocery store? How could it work here in our communities? What would it mean to enshrine a Bill of Rights for grocery shoppers? Join us to learn more\, share your story\, and help shape a movement for Fresh Food for All. \nRSVP today and be part of the fight for Fresh Food for All! \nThis town hall is being hosted by UFCW 3000 and MLK Labor.

SUMMARY:Education Funding Forum
DESCRIPTION:Public education and childcare investments are under attack by our federal government. If we want to protect these investments in our future\, we must come together and fight back. \nJoin educators\, childcare providers\, families\, students\, legislators\, and other community members at the Education Funding Labor Forum at Franklin High School on Saturday\, September 20th\, from 10 to noon. \nWe seek to build a broad coalition across our entire education system\, pre-k to higher ed\, so we can discuss the struggles we are all facing\, while also dreaming about the world we want to see. We’ll talk about how funding is essential to build the world-class education system our students and families deserve and what we can all do to push for these investments. \nThe event will include a panel discussion\, breakout sessions\, and time to talk with legislators. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \nRSVP HERE.

SUMMARY:Seattle Pride Parade
DESCRIPTION:The Labor Community\, led by Pride at Work\, will march in the Seattle Pride Parade on Sunday\, June 29. If you want to join the labor contingent\, meet at the 4th Ave and Madison St check-in booth between 10:30 and 11 a.m. The parade will start at 11 a.m. \nThis year’s theme is “Resist With Pride”. LGBTQ communities are under attack in Seattle and across the country. Instead of protecting our rights\, the federal government is targeting us. Seattle is a key target for ICE and DHS crackdowns\, placing LGBTQ immigrant communities at heightened risk. \nPride is an opportunity to show our strength and that labor stands with queer communities. Bring your banners. Wear your union colors.
