As the city grows\, what do people who live and/or work in Seattle want and need for a more equitable\, livable\, sustainable\, and resilient city? What would make public transportation more safe\, efficient\, and affordable? \nThey hope to bring in the voices of Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color (BIPOC) workers and those who have been invisibilized and not at the planning tables.  At this kickoff\, they will share more about the project\, our strategy\, and opportunities to have your members’ voices heard.

DESCRIPTION:The King County Labor community will have a large contingent at the Seattle Pride Parade\, led by Seattle Pride at Work. \nThe Parade is on Sunday\, June 26 at 11 am. We are contingent #68 (out of 200+)\, so we’ll be in the first third of the parade. Gather on 4th Ave\, between Seneca and Spring\, on the west side of the street. \nDO bring banners and flags\, and wear your union colors. DO NOT bring vehicles. We’re only allowed one\, and that’s allocated for seniors and others who can’t walk the whole way.\n\n\nCOVID protocols: Masks are NOT required. Proof of vaccination and/or proof of a negative COVID test within 48 hours of the parade ARE REQUIRED. Please remember to bring your vax cards.\n\nIf you have swag to give away\, the parade organizers ask that you hand it out to the crowd. DESCRIPTION:Join Homegrown workers on Thursday\, June 16 at 5 pm at Homegrown Capitol Hill @ Melrose Market (1531 Melrose Ave\, Seattle\, WA)\, where Homegrown workers and community supporters will be asking customers to not buy Homegrown products.\n\nOne week ago\, workers from Homegrown sandwich cafes and Homegrown’s wholesale production and distribution facilities delivered a majority petition calling on Homegrown to agree to a fair and quick process to decide whether to form a union without threats or intimidation. On Monday\, Homegrown sent a communication only to the café workers\, offering them a raise but refusing to acknowledge their request for a fair process to decide whether to form a union together with the workers who produce and distribute Homegrown’s wholesale product.\n\nHomegrown store Shift Lead Russell says\, “Even after working for Homegrown for 7 years\, it’s not enough money. It means I have to work too much\, and it takes away time from my family. As a father\, time with my kids is the most important thing.”\n\nHomegrown operates ten cafes across the Seattle area. The wholesale products\, marketed under the brand’s Molly’s\, Tosti\, Bolt\, and Shine\, are sold at dozens of independent cafes and also at institutional cafeterias in hospitals and universities. Workers have started reaching out to customers at cafes and at the places where the wholesale sandwiches are sold\, asking customers not to buy Molly’s\, Tosti\, Shine\, or Bolt products until Homegrown respects the workers’ decision.\n\nHomegrown brands itself as a sustainable sandwich shop\, but the reality is that its own workers struggle to make ends in Seattle.\n\nA union would bring workers respect on the job and wages and benefits that would make their jobs sustainable.\nSandwich workers refuse to be divided\, but they need support from community and labor allies.
