DESCRIPTION:Fred Meyer has announced the closure of four grocery stores in our region — in Lake City\, Kent\, Redmond\, and Everett. These closures will eliminate nearly 700 union jobs and leave working-class neighborhoods with fewer options for affordable food. Kroger\, the parent company of Fred Meyer\, is blaming “theft” and “regulations” for these closures — but the truth is corporate greed: billions of dollars siphoned to Wall Street instead of reinvesting in our stores\, workers\, and communities. \nOn Saturday\, September 20\, workers\, shoppers\, elected officials\, and community members will come together at the Seattle Labor Temple for a Community Town Hall to fight back. We’ll hear directly from impacted grocery workers\, shoppers\, and leaders about the stakes of these closures — and identify concrete ways for the community to push back and stand together. \nThis town hall will go into more detail on our new Fresh Food for All campaign — a bold vision to reimagine our food system so it works for everyone.
